IT Manager, Systems Administration Manager
The IT Manger will be responsible for planning, execution, staff oversight, and financial management of systems administration group. Has full supervisory responsibility for staff (e.g., hiring, training, and performance management) and is accountable for the performance and results of the team.
The company is located in Washington, D.C. and will be a hybrid model (2 days onsite)

What You Will Be Doing:
- Manages the systems administration functions of the National Academies in accordance with relevant operational and security policies, ensuring that the systems are operational and performing within specified operational guidelines. Develops and establishes internal departmental standards and procedures.
- Collaborates with unit staff, Information Technology Services (ITS), vendors, and other appropriate parties to plan and implement technology services for the unit. Ensures that all aspects of these services are effectively implemented.
- Identifies, evaluates, and recommends strategic information system technologies to be able to apply new technology, processes, and software to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manages and monitors multiple projects, providing technical and administrative supervision. Ensures projects stay on schedule, oversees delegated tasks, and ensures project parameters are met. Interfaces with members of the IT and user community to coordinate activities relating to the implantation of the projects.
- Manages staff and works closely with ITS Unit staff to ensure all user identifications (IDs) across multiple applications within the Enterprise Directory.
- Manages, reviews, and audits server configurations to ensure that users are assigned to appropriate servers in a high secure environment.
- Manages staff that tracks software licenses for the National Academies. Takes appropriate action regarding maintenance, expirations, upgrades, and renewals.
- Monitors service level agreements (SLAs) and ensures that services are delivered according to SLAs. Analyzes trends and staff performance to ensure SLAs are met.
- Provides oversight and ensures implementation of the Change Management platform for Operations.
- Provides leadership and mentors employees. Trains and develops employees to successfully perform current responsibilities and encourages development of staff for future roles. Forms effective teams and cultivates a work environment that fosters teamwork. Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies. Initiates personnel actions, including performance and compensation reviews and disciplinary actions.
- Collaborates with department director or unit financial officer to develop annual budgets for technology needs. Authorizes expenditures, monitors budgets, and ensures budget parameters are met.
- Remains up to date on current trends and best practices. Ensures team members develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized areas.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in information systems administration. Ability to solve intellectual problems of substantial variety and complexity using originality and ingenuity.
- Ability to serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems. Ability to use substantial latitude for independent judgment and action. Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment and to form and maintain effective teams.
- Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective communication.
- Excellent communications skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.
- Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent knowledge.
- Minimum Experience: Six years of related professional experience, three of which were in a supervisory role.
- Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to Manager, Network Systems and Engineering. General direction is provided. Supervises systems administration group.
- Work Environment: Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 40%, with occasional travel between National Academies’ facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.
