The Role: As a Database Implementation and Administration Specialist, you will take charge of all aspects of database implementation, working closely with SREs and software developers to build exceptional database solutions through automation and Infrastructure as Code (IAC) principles. Your expertise will be pivotal in achieving operational excellence and seamlessly migrating on-prem databases to a modern cloud infrastructure.

What You'll Do:

  • Ensure data and operational security through secure design, effective access management, and secure storage practices.
  • Champion reliability with HA, DR implementations, and sound administration practices.
  • Facilitate fast recovery through highly automated and rigorously tested backup processes.
  • Monitor system performance, enabling early identification of potential issues by contributing to high-quality monitoring systems.
  • Respond promptly to support requests, ensuring smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Report on metrics related to usage and performance, contributing to ongoing improvements.
  • Innovate ways to enhance the reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of our database assets.
  • Collaborate with project managers, SREs, and developers to optimize processes and system performance.
  • Design databases with a user-centric approach, considering both front-end and back-end users' needs.

Skills You Bring:

  • Strong experience as a database administrator, with a focus on PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and managed services like MS Flex Server or AWS RDS.
  • A proven track record in query optimization and performance improvement.
  • A keen eye for process improvement and automation.
  • Sharp analytical skills and a talent for creative problem-solving.
  • Impeccable organization and attention to detail.
  • Mastery of current database best practices and design patterns.
  • Good conceptual knowledge of Object-Oriented Databases (OODBs).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Enterprise technologies, multizone, and multi-region replication strategies.
  • Bonus points for automation skills in Bash, Golang, or Python, as well as knowledge of IaC and CI/CD tools like Terraform and GitHub Actions.

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in database administration.
