Director of Engineering

Company and Role

My client is one of the fastest growing animal marketplace centers around the world. They want to grow their team and a Director of Engineering to provide leadership and oversee and commit to achieving technical requirements. Additionally, they will provide resource planning and project scheduling using Agile/Scrum software development methodologies. You are passionate about engineering and driving the practice of engineering through education, training, recruiting, process, and culture. The Director of Engineering will report directly to the CTO.



  • Build out and lead an engineering team that is creating the industry leading virtual veterinary medicine technology platform
  • Meet business needs by managing the activities of engineers, consistently delivering quality solutions Work with internal customers to gather and strategically prioritize business priorities and design processes and project requirements
  • Actively leads and drives the software development life-cycle from requirements analysis, feasibility estimates, design, code, documentation, testing, implementation, and support
  • Develop project plans, resource planning, scheduling and manage development timelines
  • Build and manage multi-disciplined software development teams and oversee the development processes using industry best practices
  • Responsible for design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring the software engineering team
  • Work closely with the talent acquisition team to hire world-class talent and grow a high performance team



  • Minimum of 2+ years in a leadership role within software development (ie. Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director, VP)
  • Minimum of 8+ years of work experience in software development
  • Experience managing software development teams with a minimum of 10 team members (ideally 15 to 20)
  • Experience hiring, on-boarding and growing a software development team in a high growth environment
  • Experience working on a 2-sided marketplace technology with mobile application functionalities is an asset
  • Experience working at a high growth, fast paced start up or scale up is an asset (preferably SaaS)
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Advanced knowledge with agile/scrum methodologies, software development tools, and best practices
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
