Linux System Administrator

This company is looking for a Linux System Administrator proficient in RedHat Linux, RedHat Satellite, and Ansible for automated patching. This is a full-time salaried role supporting a government client based in Washington, DC, with the option of working remotely full-time. The preferred candidate will have proven experience in Linux server management within a data center setting, including OS patching and task automation using management tools and custom scripts (in bash/shell/Python). Experience in deployments, infrastructure management, and server patching is highly desirable.

This position will remain 100% remote, but the candidate must be local to the D.C. Area.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Linux Systems Administration.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance is required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in computer science, information systems, or related technical field.
  • Proficiency with RedHat Linux versions 7, 8, and/or 9 within a server-based data center setting.
  • Advanced skills in Linux command line operations including navigation, folder/file management, and disk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large numbers of servers concurrently (over 100).
  • Proven experience in writing, maintaining, and executing shell scripts.
  • Familiarity with deployment automation tools such as Ansible or CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience in patch management utilizing RedHat Satellite.
  • Understanding of other data center components including VMWare, SAN, Routers/Switches, Firewalls, and Load Balancing.
  • Competence in system and network monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with high availability architectures, performance optimization, and capacity planning.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Linux Systems Administration.
  • Master’s degree preferred, ideally in computer science, information systems, or related technical field.
  • Previous experience working with a civil federal agency.
  • Background as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).
  • Preferred certifications include RedHat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA).
  • Additional desirable certifications could include RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator, Red Hat Certified Specialist in Advanced Automation, CompTIA Linux+, Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), or SUSE Certified Engineer (SCE).
