Director of Embedded Software Engineering

Our client is a leading global healthcare company headquartered in Boston, dedicated to advancing medical technology and improving patient outcomes through innovative solutions. Specializing in developing cutting-edge medical devices that enhance diagnostics, treatment, and patient care across various healthcare domains.

Our client is currently hiring for a Director of Embedded Software Engineer to lead their talented team of embedded software developers. This position will play a critical role in driving the development of embedded software solutions for our medical devices. The director will oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design to implementation, testing, and validation. This would be a full-time hybrid position in Boston.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in embedded software development within the medical device or health care industry.
  • Experience working on medial devices or highly regulated products.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience in software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum) and tools for embedded systems.
  • Deep understanding of real-time operating systems, firmware development, and hardware / software integration.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (FDA, IS0 13485) and practices for medical device software development (IEC 62304).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and present complex technical information clearly.
What You Will Be Doing

Daily Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of embedded software engineers responsible for developing software for medical devices.
  • Drive the technical strategy and roadmap for embedded software development, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, systems engineering, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs to ensure successful product development.
  • Define and implement best practices for embedded software development processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead software architecture and design reviews, ensuring adherence to software quality standards and regulatory guidelines.
