Windows Engineer- Storage

Acts as a senior engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in technologies utilized within the Data Center, including Storage Area Networks (SAN), enterprise-class servers, virtual server farms, enterprise backup technologies, enterprise systems, and performance monitoring platforms. Designs, constructs, oversees, and supervises enterprise-class production servers and SAN. Conducts in-depth analysis of complex data and issues spanning multiple systems, identifying, and implementing corrective actions as needed.

This position will be a hybrid model in Vienna, VA.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Acts as a senior engineer responsible for maintaining and supporting server systems and related applications, providing tier 3 and analytical support.
  • Specializes as a Storage Area Network (SAN) Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Administrator, focusing on Dell EMC's PowerMax, Unity, and Powerstore, VMAX storage arrays, Cisco switches, and host connectivity within a Windows/Linux environment.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting systems' performance using various monitoring tools, addressing voice and data system issues, and taking proactive measures to ensure stability and availability.
  • Manages a distributed data center with a disaster recovery (DR) site, overseeing real-time data replication and hot standby servers.
  • Keeps current with Windows server operating systems, handling installations, configurations, driver updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Leads virtual server technology initiatives, including building and overseeing virtual server farms.
  • Administers Data Center Enterprise System Management tools, assessing server usage and storage trends, and managing monitoring tool suites like PRTG and SolarWinds.
  • Executes detailed technical tasks such as building server clusters, optimizing performance, and addressing SAN security.
  • Resolves level 2 and level 3 server issues during planned and unplanned outages.
  • Contributes to operational documentation, providing insights for installation, configuration, and SAN upgrades, and advising on system architecture and standards.
  • Leads projects as a project manager, overseeing progress, schedules, delegated tasks, and budget adherence.
  • Trains Data Center Engineers in hardware technology and provides technical leadership for junior engineers when needed.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Proficient in managing, diagnosing, designing, and deploying enterprise-grade server environments.
  • Possesses advanced analytical and troubleshooting capabilities at an expert level.
  • Specializes in Storage Area Network (SAN) technology and Fibre Channel technologies, particularly Dell's PowerMax and Unity platforms.
  • Demonstrates expert-level proficiency in storage tools and applications such as PowerPath, Unisphere for PowerMax, Unisphere for Unity, Cisco Fabric Manager, Cisco Data Center Network Manager, SYMCLI, and Unity CLI. Displays expert-level knowledge of Windows Server environments and their production systems.
  • Holds deep expertise in enterprise backup platforms and related concepts. Familiar with switched networks, TCP/IP routing protocols, network administration, and security concerns. Shows an expert-level grasp of system monitoring concepts, products, and remote management of enterprise environments.
  • Capable of leading and directing lower-level technical staff in analyzing and resolving complex problems and issues.
