Linux System Administrator

This company plays a crucial role in securing, stabilizing, and ensuring the resilience of the internet. As a trusted provider of internet infrastructure services, we deliver unparalleled performance in domain name system (DNS) services, supporting the networked world.

The company is located in Reston, VA and will be remote friendly, but the candidate must be local to the D.C. Area.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Oversee technical designs for software solutions integrating Open Source, COTS (commercial off-the-shelf), and custom-developed components.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain services across production, QA, and development environments on platforms like OpenStack and Docker.
  • Develop enabling infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Create deployment automation tools with Ansible.
  • Develop automation and configuration management solutions using Salt Stack and Jenkins.
  • Implement encryption solutions with Hashicorp Vault.
  • Develop a large-scale Software Defined Network (SDN) using Guard iCore.
  • Document processes, procedures, and configurations.
  • Coordinate with technical staff to implement systems and software.
  • Perform occasional operations support, including problem isolation and resolution.
  • Provide critical technical leadership in operational processes and change management, mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Regularly report progress to management.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • More than 8 years of hands-on experience in developing and maintaining mission-critical systems.
  • Thorough comprehension of Linux configuration and administration.
  • Proficiency in a high-level scripting language like Python.
  • Extensive experience in automation, understanding its rationale and scope.
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, adept at explaining complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols and security best practices.
  • Experience in developing robust monitoring and reporting solutions using tools such as Grafana and Splunk.
  • Familiarity with development tools including GitHub, Jira, and Confluence.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Proficient in deploying automation using tools like Ansible.
  • Experienced in using Jenkins within continuous delivery and integration environments.
  • Familiar with Docker or Kubernetes in production settings.
  • Skilled in managing OpenStack in production environments.
  • Knowledgeable about HTTP proxies such as Squid.
  • Experienced with RedHat Enterprise Linux and/or FreeBSD.
  • Familiar with CMDB and ITIL platforms like ServiceNow.
  • Experienced with RedHat Identity Manager and/or FreeIPA.
  • Proficient in administering Linux and Unix systems at scale.
  • Experienced with VMWare in production environments.
  • Experience working with teams using Kanban and/or Scrum methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience in Registry Services, E-commerce, or ISP environments.
