We are seeking a Senior Virtualization/ Cloud Systems Engineer to take a leading role in the support, enhancement, and operational delivery of critical IT services, particularly focusing on Cloud Compute and Hypervisor Platforms. This role entails managing the allocation of compute and virtualized resources, including Cisco UCS and Dell rackmount servers, across geographically dispersed cloud platforms. The position requires a remote hands approach, working with vendors and local datacenter technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain Cloud Compute Infrastructure, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and monitoring.
- Install and configure rackmount servers and blade systems.
- Manage tools such as vCenter, vCloud Director, ESXi, UCS Manager, and vRealize Operations.
- Serve as an escalation point for operational issues, participating in an on-call rotation.
- Support and document migrations and upgrades, ensuring platform asset lifecycle management.
- Validate operational processes and create thorough documentation.
- Develop Method of Procedures (MOPs) for proposed changes to minimize service impact.
- Identify opportunities and develop scripts to automate deployments and routine tasks.
- Proactively monitor and resolve performance issues.
- Plan and execute capacity planning and performance analysis.
- Troubleshoot complex problems, collaborating with peers and vendors as needed.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of innovation, pride, and performance.
- Engage in professional development to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with Design and Build Teams to develop new solutions and provide feedback on existing platforms.
- Assist in scoping, simulating, and executing disaster recovery exercises.
- Support Windows, Linux, and ESXi performance troubleshooting and optimization.
- Be available for weekend or nighttime maintenance activities as needed.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Terraform experience
- Automation experience via Terraform or Ansible
- Over 10 years of experience with VMware ESXi implementation and support.
- More than 6 years of experience with Cisco UCS.
- At least 8 years of experience with Dell or other vendor rackmount server solutions.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience with Zerto.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with VMware vRealize Operations.
- Familiarity with VMware NSX.
- Experience with storage platforms such as EMC, NetApp, Infinidat, or Hitachi.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, VCP, VCIX, or equivalent.
- ITIL Foundation certification is a plus.
