Job Title: Director of Cloud Engineering
Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite in Chicago, IL)


Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Director of Cloud Engineering to join our team at a leading options trading firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial services and a deep technical skillset, particularly with AWS, Kafka, Terraform, and Kubernetes. In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, driving cloud strategy, architecture, and implementation while maintaining a hands-on approach with the technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, guiding the team in designing, building, and managing robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain a hands-on approach, particularly with Kafka, AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes, to support architecture and operational tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to align cloud initiatives with business needs, focusing on optimizing systems for high-performance financial trading.
  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions that ensure availability, scalability, and security.
  • Drive cloud strategy, architecture, and migration initiatives, ensuring best practices in cloud infrastructure management and automation.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, driving new technologies and methodologies.
  • Oversee cloud cost management and optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and financial regulations, particularly around cloud security and data governance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering with a focus on AWS (including architecture, deployment, and management).
  • 5+ years of management experience, leading cloud engineering teams.
  • Proven experience in the financial services industry, preferably within trading or options.
  • Expertise in AWS services, Kafka, Terraform, and Kubernetes, with the ability to be hands-on in these technologies.
  • AWS certification (Associate or Professional level) is required.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
