Field Service Engineer – Columbia, SC
Location: Columbia, SC

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to support our operations in the Columbia, SC area. In this role, you will be responsible for managing various network activities, including equipment setup and commissioning, circuit and node activation, and customer premises equipment installation. This includes working with devices such as Ethernet Network Interface Devices (NIDs), routers, data switches, firewalls, IADs, hosted phones, and ONTs. You will also perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing on transport, switching, and IP/Data networks. The role involves periodic on-call duties and close interaction with internal teams, clients, and other telecom professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment.
  • Perform circuit/node activations and testing to ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to IP networks, switching infrastructure, and transport systems.
  • Maintain and monitor customer equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and phones.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and infrastructure testing.
  • Collaborate with customers, technicians, and technical support teams.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience with telecom equipment (e.g., Cisco, Ciena).
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with telecom hardware and network systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco and/or Ciena equipment is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of AC/DC power fundamentals and ability to work with tertiary power systems.
  • Strong grasp of engineering documents and schematics.
  • Proficient in the use of test equipment, including DS1-100G, OTDR, and fiber scopes.
  • Familiar with Office 365 and other essential software tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and make routine project decisions.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
