Detection Design Engineer

This large enterprise in the Finger Lakes region of New York state seeks a Detector Design Engineer. They provide a wide range of products and services primarily for the nuclear power, medical, and military sectors. This is a full-time, on-site role (onsite 5 days a week).
This company specializes in radiation detection and plays a crucial role in safeguarding against radiation hazards and ensuring the safe use of nuclear technology across different industries. The role involves collaborating with engineers and teams across various levels to ensure accurate design, testing, analyses, and calculations. Required Skills & Experience

• Nucleonics experience
• Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited university
• Skills in hypothesizing, testing, and drawing conclusions on radioactive detectors
  • Knowledge of nuclear detector equipment including spectroscopy instruments
  • Expertise in neutron detection, interactions with materials, and radioactive decay
• 4+ years of project or design engineering experience
• Ability to interact effectively with customers to discuss improvements and possible procedural changes, such as managing returns or diagnosing issues with a critical detector

Desired Skills & Experience

• Familiarity with MCNP
• Has excellent communication skills
