Linux Engineer

A software company in Glassboro, NJ is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to join their infrastructure team. In this role, you will take ownership of critical Linux environments, lead deployments, and offload significant workload from senior leadership. The environment is highly stable and nearly 100% on-prem, with a heavy focus on RHEL and Debian systems.

This position is ideal for a self-sufficient, experienced Linux professional who thrives in hands-on server environments and enjoys tackling deployments, system maintenance, and supporting a large-scale infrastructure. You should be comfortable operating independently and contributing to ongoing automation and virtualization efforts.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of Linux system engineering experience (RHEL and/or Debian)

• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Experience maintaining web servers running on Linux

• Familiarity with large, on-prem physical infrastructure environments

• Hands-on experience with VMware in enterprise environments

• Basic scripting knowledge (Bash, Python, or similar) – not required, but helpful

• Understanding of Linux-based system deployments, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting

• Strong documentation skills and experience following internal standards and procedures

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

What You Will Be Doing

• Leading and managing heavy Linux deployments across RHEL and Debian systems

• Supporting and maintaining web servers in a 99.99% on-prem environment

• Collaborating with the infrastructure team to improve system performance and reliability

• Assisting with early-stage automation initiatives and identifying opportunities for operational efficiency

• Working in and supporting a large physical data center environment (minimal on-site presence required)

• Monitoring, patching, and maintaining production systems to ensure uptime and compliance

• Managing systems within a heavily virtualized VMware infrastructure

• Taking ownership of tasks and relieving workload from senior engineers and management
