A growing team is looking to hire a skilled Software Engineer to maximize the use and performance of core systems through tailored programming and system enhancements. This hands-on role requires strong expertise with Unix AIX platforms, embedded SQL, COBOL, Unix shell scripting, and DB2 databases. The Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing system processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in claims, membership, authorization, and provider configurations.
This role involves collaborating with system users and technical teams to design solutions that address complex business needs, contributing to efficient and reliable service delivery. Additionally, the Engineer will oversee program change requests, manage vendor relationships, and refine standardized testing processes. A proactive approach to problem-solving and seamless coordination with internal teams and external vendors is essential. This position may require occasional after-hours availability to address urgent system matters.
Required Skills & Experience:

Experience with software development on Unix AIX platforms and DB2 databases

Hands-on experience with embedded SQL for database integration and query optimization

Proficiency in COBOL, with a proven ability to develop, maintain, and optimize legacy systems

Proficient in SQL programming and Unix shell scripting

Familiarity with AIX environments, including system navigation, scripting, and deployment processes

Understanding of general healthcare processes such as Claims, Membership, and Provider management

Experience managing vendor relationships and troubleshooting system-related issues

Intermediate experience with EDI transactions, including standards such as 834, 837, and 278

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Desired Skills & Experience:

Experience coding in an object-oriented programming language

Experience working in an agile and collaborative environment

Ability to communicate effectively with team members

Experience with SQL Server, Visual Studio, and Azure

Familiarity with automation tools for software build/release and server configuration/maintenance (Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Vagrant)

Exposure to Docker and container orchestration tools

Knowledge of logging, monitoring, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack

Understanding of healthcare payer operations and regulatory standards

Background in managed care or healthcare systems is a plus

Ability to translate user needs into program functional specifications and system enhancements
