We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Engineer to support the development and implementation of secure systems within government-regulated environments. This role requires a strong background in security architecture, risk assessment, threat analysis, and compliance, with a focus on DoD cybersecurity frameworks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in managing both technical and procedural aspects of cybersecurity programs.
The company is located in Manassas, VA and will be a hybrid model of 2 days onsite a week.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Design and implement security frameworks and architectures in alignment with industry standards and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to embed security best practices into system and network designs.
- Guide systems through government security approval processes, ensuring compliance with all security requirements.
- Verify compliance with system security requirements during installation, deployment, and upgrades.
- Conduct routine risk and vulnerability assessments to identify security gaps in systems and infrastructure.
- Recommend risk mitigation strategies and improvements to enhance overall network security.
- Monitor security events and analyze incidents to identify and assess potential threats or vulnerabilities.
- Lead investigations into security incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Design and enhance monitoring capabilities and incident response procedures across network environments.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies and procedures in accordance with government standards.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001.
- Deploy, manage, and optimize security tools, including IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint protection systems.
- Continuously assess and enhance security technologies to ensure effective threat mitigation.
- Conduct employee training programs to promote security awareness and best practices.
- Develop training materials to address evolving threats and improve organizational readiness.
- Maintain detailed documentation of security incidents, investigations, compliance audits, and system changes.
- Prepare reports and briefings to communicate security posture and activities to leadership and stakeholders.
- Work closely with IT teams, security engineers, and project stakeholders to integrate security into system designs and deployments.
- Participate in strategy sessions and planning meetings to align security goals with broader project objectives.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in cybersecurity or a related field (e.g., Threat Analyst, Security Engineer, Network Forensics).
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience identifying threats and designing protection measures.
- Demonstrated expertise in threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Strong analytical and communication skills for effectively conveying complex technical information.
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity standards and frameworks (preferred).
- Experience with DoD communication systems and associated cybersecurity architecture (preferred).
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or others in security architecture and threat detection are highly desirable.
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex security issues.
- Experience conducting system-level risk assessments and threat analysis.
- Deep understanding of internet security principles and common attack vectors.
- Practical experience with firewalls, iptables, and advanced LAN/WAN concepts.
- Knowledge of network packets, ports, and routing fundamentals.
