Senior Robotics SLAM Engineer
Austin, Texas
Full Time
$140k - $210k
A cutting-edge robotics company in the Greater Austin Area is seeking a Senior SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) Engineer to design and implement advanced SLAM algorithms for next-generation robotic systems. This role requires expertise in C++ development and a deep understanding of robotics and real-time mapping solutions.
As a Senior SLAM Engineer, you will lead the development of robust localization and mapping solutions, collaborate closely with hardware and software teams, and ensure seamless integration of SLAM algorithms into robotic platforms. This is a hands-on, onsite role that offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the performance and autonomy of industry-leading robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and optimize SLAM algorithms to enable accurate localization and mapping in dynamic environments.
- Develop and integrate SLAM software in C++ for real-time applications on robotic platforms.
- Analyze sensor data from LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and other perception systems to improve SLAM accuracy and robustness.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to ensure efficient sensor fusion and system-level integration.
- Conduct performance benchmarking and testing in simulation and real-world environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to localization, mapping, and robot navigation.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on SLAM-related projects.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- 5+ years of professional experience in SLAM development for robotics or similar applications.
- Expert-level proficiency in C++, with experience in real-time and multithreaded programming.
- Strong knowledge of SLAM techniques, sensor fusion, and probabilistic state estimation.
- Experience working with robotic frameworks such as ROS/ROS2.
- Proficiency with LiDAR, vision-based SLAM (e.g., monocular, stereo, RGB-D), or visual-inertial odometry.
- Experience with performance profiling, debugging, and optimization in embedded or real-time systems.
- Familiarity with graph-based SLAM, loop closure detection, and global map optimization.
- Experience with deep learning techniques applied to perception or SLAM.
- Proficiency in Python and tools for simulation and data visualization.
- Knowledge of robotic hardware and sensor calibration processes.
