Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Manufacturing Design Engineer with expertise in New Product Introduction (NPI) to join their team at a cutting-edge warehouse robotics automation company. This role will play a crucial part in the development and transition of new robotic systems from design to full-scale production, ensuring high reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the mechanical design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) efforts for new robotic automation products.
- Drive the NPI process, working cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to bring new robotic products from prototype to mass production.
- Develop mechanical components and assemblies optimized for large-scale manufacturing, including castings, sheet metal, plastics, and machined parts.
- Define manufacturing processes, tolerances, and materials for high-performance robotic automation systems.
- Conduct design validation, testing, and failure analysis to ensure product reliability and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure seamless product ramp-up and scalability.
- Implement cost reduction strategies, process improvements, and automation solutions to enhance production efficiency.
- Provide technical expertise in robotics enclosures, electro-mechanical assemblies, motion systems, and structural components.
- Support sustaining engineering efforts, including product enhancements and continuous improvements.
- Work closely with quality, compliance, and regulatory teams to ensure adherence to industry standards.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering, with a focus on NPI and high-volume production.
- Strong expertise in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and mechanical analysis tools (FEA, thermal analysis, etc.).
- Experience with robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or industrial equipment.
- Hands-on experience with DFM, DFA, and process validation in an NPI environment.
- Familiarity with manufacturing techniques including machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
- Proven track record of working with contract manufacturers and supply chain partners to bring products to market.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Experience in warehouse automation, robotics, or material handling systems.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and failure mode analysis (FMEA).
- Experience with automation in manufacturing and Industry 4.0 practices.
