We are helping a financial firm hire a principal cloud engineer for their Chicago office. This will be a fulltime role and require three days onsite downtown. They maintain three separate physical data centers in different locations that can each independently run their entire operation, so if one or even two centers go down, they can still process trillions of dollars in options trades without interruption.
They are looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer to lead the evolution and automation of their enterprise-level cloud infrastructure while ensuring operational excellence and compliance standards. You'll architect solutions that balance innovation with reliability, serving as a technical cornerstone for their organization's cloud transformation journey.

Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, and REST API integration
- Proven experience architecting and managing large-scale cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), including automation and Infrastructure as Code
- Strong background in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) with hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines
- Track record of implementing security controls and maintaining compliance standards (CIS, NIST) in regulated environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and serve as a bridge between departments, with excellent communication skills
- Expert-level knowledge of system reliability practices, including capacity planning, disaster recovery, and high availability design
- Advanced experience with modern DevOps tools and practices, including monitoring, logging, and event streaming platforms (like Kafka)
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification or higher
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- Additional cloud certifications (Azure, GCP)
- Experience in financial services or regulated industries
- 10+ years of hands-on cloud infrastructure and systems administration experience
