Solution Architecture JG3

Our Energy client in Houston is looking for a Solutions Architect for a Database Platform Architect contract.
Duration: Through the end of the year
Project: Moving Oracle OnPrem to the Azure SQL Server Cloud. 
This is a hybrid role within our client's Houston, TX offices and remote. At least 2 to 3 days a week in office.
Daily Tasks:

• Architect the Azure SQL Server platform — not just set it up
• Migration strategy: Oracle to SQL Server (data + logic)
• PL/SQL to T-SQL conversion and equivalence strategy
•  Database sizing, right-tiering, and performance tuning
•  Backup and disaster recovery for 15TB+ database on Azure
• Ongoing tuning through development, integration testing, and UAT
• Work with engineering teams on infrastructure and long-term health

Requirements:

• Led large Oracle ? SQL Server migrations
• Azure SQL platform architecture (not just deployment)
• Database performance tuning and bottleneck analysis
• Designed backup and DR strategies for large databases (15TB+ scale preferred)

• Provide strong leadership skills, including fostering collaboration, driving consensus, and effectively communicating complex technical concepts.

• Serve as the primary contact for architectural aspects of IT projects.
• Integrate business process, data, application, technical, and information security dimensions into cohesive IT solutions.
• Ensure solution architectures are documented using standard templates and tooling complying with our client’s architectural standards.
• Guide detailed designers and business analysts during the design phase.
• Review and formally approve detailed solution designs.
• Support Lead Architect and participate in Architecture Review Board sessions as required.
