Network Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Network Engineer to join our team to support our company and multiple customers in the government sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network design, implementation, and management, with an emphasis on security and compliance in government settings. This role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, secure, and efficient network infrastructures. US Citizenship required for this position; must be able to get a DoD secret clearance.

  • 120k to 150k fixed salary range
  • Hybrid (2 days in-office) in Manassas, VA
Key Responsibilities:
  • Network Design and Implementation:
    • Design, configure, and implement secure network architectures to meet project requirements.
    • Ensure network designs comply with government standards and security protocols.
    • Manage government approval process to ensure TrEd meets system security requirements.
  • Monitoring and Maintenance:
    • Support a small user base across multiple locations.
    • Support development and service teams for network, infrastructure, remote access, logging, testing and analysis on Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
    • Support ongoing and special projects that introduce network innovation and enhance network functionality.
    • Analyze network traffic for anomalies and provide recommendations.
    • Work with colleagues on Firewalls (Ubiquity, Cisco, …) to ensure network access control, encrypted tunneling, and ways to optimize performance.
    • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary changes for optimization.
    • Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on network hardware and software.
  • Security Management:
    • Implement and manage security protocols and measures to safeguard classified information.
    • Identify insecurities in a network; that is, be able to look at a secure system and ask outside of the box questions about how it could still be compromised.
    • Conduct vulnerability assessments and lead remediation efforts.
  • Network Configuration:
    • Thorough understanding about how to configure complicated network topologies. Experience with designing and executing complex routing rules between VLANS is a plus.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and changes.
    • Prepare weekly reports on network performance, incidents, and security compliance for stakeholders.
    • Participate in the weekly IT Infrastructure Operations staff meeting to review project(s) status and learn about upcoming initiatives.
    • Articulate systems and methodologies as well as reply to security-related events and support in remediation efforts.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with IT teams, security engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated network solutions.
    • Participate in project planning and strategy meetings to align network design with project goals.
  • User Support and Training:
    • Provide technical support and training to users on network-related issues.
    • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote best practices in network usage and security.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience is also acceptable.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in network engineering or a related role, preferably in a government or classified environment.
    • Minimum 2 years experience identifying threats and developing appropriate protection measures.
    • Experience providing networking solutions, including requirements gathering, architecture design, testing, implementation, documentation, and operational support.
    • Experience capturing requirements, developing plans in alignment to technical and functional requirements, and managing the testing, integration, and release.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proven ability to solve problems by identifying causes, gathering and processing relevant information, and recommending solutions.
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills and knowledge of internet security.
    • Experience with virtual networks, VPNs, and secure communications.
    • Advanced LAN/WAN fundamental concepts.
