Job Description
A major insurance company is seeking a Director of Desktop Engineering to lead and evolve its enterprise desktop infrastructure and end-user computing strategy. In this key leadership role, you will oversee a team of five desktop engineers, with the potential to expand your responsibilities to include the Help Desk team. You will be responsible for delivering a secure, efficient, and scalable desktop environment that supports 3,500 employees across a dynamic and growing organization.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in modern endpoint management, Microsoft 365 administration, and security best practices, along with strong leadership skills and a strategic mindset. You will collaborate across departments to solve business challenges, drive systems modernization, and enhance the overall employee technology experience.
Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

10+ years of IT experience with a focus on desktop engineering or end-user computing
-
5+ years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing technical teams

Proven expertise in Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Conditional Access, MFA, and endpoint security

Strong hands-on knowledge of Windows OS, macOS, and modern endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, Ivanti, or equivalent

Experience with software deployment strategies and automation techniques

Understanding of security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, and related standards for endpoint and cloud environments

Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) preferred

Knowledge of ITIL or other IT service management frameworks preferred
Leadership & Business Acumen

Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and grow high-performing technical teams

Experience managing vendor relationships and third-party professional services for systems integration, cloud migrations, or large-scale IT projects

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders

Proven success in collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives and improve operational efficiency

Experience managing IT budgets, vendor contracts, service level agreements, and performance metrics
What You Will Be Doing

Leading the Desktop Engineering team, providing direction, mentorship, and performance management

Driving the modernization and optimization of the company’s end-user computing environment

Overseeing desktop and endpoint strategy across the organization, ensuring secure and reliable access for 3,500 employees

Managing Microsoft 365 configuration and administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and security services
-
Collaborating with security and compliance teams to align desktop environments with industry frameworks and internal policies
-
Spearheading automation initiatives for software deployment and system configuration using tools like PowerShell or Intune
-
Working closely with IT leadership to evaluate, select, and manage technology vendors and service providers
-
Preparing and managing budgets, forecasts, and cost-effective technology strategies
-
Potentially expanding responsibilities to include oversight of Help Desk operations

Staying current with industry trends and recommending improvements to tools, policies, and practices
