IBM iSeries Systems Engineer

We are seeking a skilled IBM iSeries Systems Engineer to manage, maintain, and optimize our clients enterprise-level IBM i (AS/400) systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM iSeries infrastructure, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and system integration to ensure secure, stable, and high-performing computing environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer, monitor, and support IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems including hardware, operating systems, and related software.

  • Perform system upgrades, PTF installations, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

  • Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions to optimize system performance.

  • Automate administrative tasks using CL, RPG, or other scripting tools.

  • Collaborate with application development teams to support deployment and integration of business applications.

  • Maintain and enhance security policies and system compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive system documentation.

  • Provide after-hours support and participate in on-call rotations as required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of experience supporting IBM iSeries (AS/400) environments.

  • Proficient with IBM i operating system, CL programming, BRMS, and IBM Power Systems hardware.

  • Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g., Robot Scheduler, Control-M).

  • Strong understanding of system security, backup/recovery strategies, and high availability solutions.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with PowerHA, SAN storage, or replication technologies.

  • Familiarity with RPG, COBOL, or other IBM i application languages.

  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., finance, healthcare, manufacturing).
