As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the on-premises Linux environments. You will leverage your expertise in VMware to manage and optimize our virtual infrastructure, while also utilizing Ansible for automation to improve efficiency and reliability.

This role is local to Philadelphia, you must be able to commute three days a week. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage Linux-based systems in an on-premises environment.
  • Administer and optimize VMware infrastructure, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and automation scripts to streamline system deployments and configurations.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application deployments and infrastructure changes.
  • Implement security best practices and compliance measures across Linux and VMware environments.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Document processes, configurations, and system changes for future reference and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience as a Linux Engineer or System Administrator, with a focus on on-premises environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) and system administration.
  • Extensive experience with VMware (ESXi, vCenter) and virtual networking.
  • Proficiency in Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.) for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP) are a plus.
  • Familiarity with other automation tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef) is a bonus.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is beneficial.
