A stealth-mode medical robotics company at the forefront of autonomous surgical innovation is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join their dynamic R&D team. Based in South San Francisco, this is a unique opportunity to work hands-on developing real-time control systems for next-generation surgical platforms.

? What You'll Do:
  • Design, implement, and test control algorithms for robotic surgical systems.

  • Develop and optimize motion planning and path control for complex, high-precision robotic arms.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software, hardware, and clinical teams to ensure system reliability and performance.

  • Troubleshoot real-time systems and fine-tune motion performance.

  • Support the integration of autonomous features into the surgical workflow.

  • Document control software and participate in design reviews and regulatory preparation.

? What You Bring:
  • Strong background in control systems design and implementation.

  • Proficiency in software development (C++, Python, or similar).

  • Experience with robotics platforms, preferably in medical or high-stakes environments.

  • Familiarity with motion control, path planning, and real-time embedded systems.

  • Experience with autonomous systems or autonomous vehicles is a strong plus.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

? Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 4+ years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in robotics or automation.

  • Knowledge of surgical robotics, medical devices, or regulated environments is a plus but not required.
