Azure Platform Engineer

Toronto, ON

Hybrid

Full Time

$105k - $130k

A leading technology consulting group is partnering with a major financial services organization to modernize and scale its data platform. This role centers on architecting and optimizing a robust Azure-based Lakehouse environment, with Databricks as a foundational component. As a platform engineer, you'll drive cloud infrastructure design, containerized microservices enablement, and end-to-end observability across critical data systems used by risk, compliance, and analytics teams.

You’ll work hands-on with Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Delta Lake to build and manage large-scale data pipelines. This includes owning the setup of secure, production-grade Azure infrastructure—covering AKS, Key Vault, Networking, and Storage—while championing automation and DevOps practices with Terraform, ARM templates, and CI/CD tooling like GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps. This is a high-impact role ideal for engineers with deep platform experience who want to drive infrastructure excellence within a highly regulated domain.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Expert-level hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, including Delta Lake and Apache Spark in enterprise-scale deployments

  • In-depth knowledge of Azure infrastructure services: AKS, Container Registries, Key Vault, Networking, and Resource Manager

  • Proven track record building and operating microservices-based architectures and implementing Infrastructure-as-Code with tools like Terraform and ARM

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Event Grid) and awareness of data mesh and distributed ownership principles

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, or Datadog

  • Exposure to adjacent technologies like MongoDB Atlas and Confluent Cloud Kafka in a cloud-native environment

Daily Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Engineering: 70%

  • Team Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work: 30%

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis now and in the future.

Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the hiring process as required under Motion Recruitment’s Employment Accommodation policy. Applicants need to make their needs known in advance.
