A growing cyber security consulting firm is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join a highly collaborative cybersecurity team supporting enterprise-level infrastructure. This role is ideal for a seasoned network engineer with deep expertise in network security, threat mitigation, and incident response. You’ll design and maintain secure network architectures, monitor for anomalies, and play a key role in strengthening the organization’s overall security posture. This is a 6-month Contract-to-Hire role based in Washington, DC, requiring onsite work three days per week. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures and controls aligned with cybersecurity best practices
- Analyze network traffic to detect anomalies, threats, and vulnerabilities
- Lead incident response for network-related security events and coordinate with SOC and security teams
- Provide technical leadership and act as a subject matter expert on network security across teams
- Mentor and support junior network engineers in secure networking concepts and practices
- Maintain documentation for network architecture, security procedures, and incident response activities
- 5+ years of professional experience in network engineering with a strong cybersecurity focus
- Proficiency with network security protocols, firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and segmentation strategies
- Hands-on experience analyzing network traffic and developing mitigation strategies
- Strong collaboration skills and experience guiding SOC or security teams on network defense
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field
- Relevant certifications preferred: CCNP, CISSP, CEH, Security+, Network+
- Must be eligible for Public Trust Clearance
