Our client is a cutting edge defense and aerospace start-up at the forefront of developing mission-critical systems for national security, aerospace innovation, and advanced technology platforms. Their team is composed of world-class engineers, scientists, and technologists dedicated to solving complex engineering challenges in air, land, sea, and space. They are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Controls Engineer to join their multidisciplinary engineering team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating embedded control systems for advanced aerospace and defense applications, including guided systems, unmanned vehicles, and high-reliability flight hardware. Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement embedded control algorithms for electromechanical systems including actuators, motors, and sensor interfaces.

  • Develop real-time software for microcontrollers, DSPs, or FPGAs using C/C++ and RTOS environments.

  • Perform modeling and simulation of dynamic systems using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Support system integration, testing, and validation of embedded controls in laboratory and field environments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to define control requirements and system architecture.

  • Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.

  • Document designs, verification activities, and provide technical input for customer deliverables and design reviews.

  • Ensure compliance with aerospace safety standards and applicable military specifications (DO-178, DO-254, MIL-STD-1553, etc.).

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in embedded control system design and implementation.

  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and real-time programming.

  • Strong background in control theory, sensor fusion, signal processing, and system modeling.

  • Experience with embedded development tools, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debugging techniques.

  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, or MIL-STD interfaces.

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract obligations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with aerospace or defense system development.

  • Knowledge of flight control systems, autonomous systems, or missile guidance.

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Design (MBD) and auto-code generation using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Experience with DO-178C/DO-254 or other aerospace software/hardware certification standards.

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
