Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field) and 4+ years of relevant experience (or Master’s in Accounting with 2+ years).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter with proven accountability and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Desired Skills & Experience
- CPA or CMI designation.
- Proven experience in sales & use tax compliance and research.
- Industry experience in telecom and related regulatory reporting (e.g., USAC 499A/Qs).
- Familiarity with sales tax software (Avalara, Vertex).
- Experience with data analytics and automation tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, UIPath).
Sales & Use Tax Compliance
- Review and validate sales tax returns prepared by external providers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely filing.
- Reconcile tax accounts to the General Ledger and research variances.
- Manage sales tax registrations, exemption certificates, and compliance support.
- Assist with sales tax audits, including gathering documentation, preparing responses, and coordinating with tax authorities.
- Support resolution of disputes and maintain proper audit documentation.
- Provide guidance on sales tax implications of business decisions, including nexus reviews, taxability analysis, and exemption opportunities.
- Stay informed of evolving tax laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Analyze tax trends and investigate anomalies to identify risks and opportunities.
- Support tax technology initiatives, automation projects, and process enhancements.
- Partner with internal business units, accounting, and external advisors to address tax questions and deliver effective solutions.
- Communicate complex tax issues clearly and concisely to non-tax professionals.
