Remote SQL Migration Specialist/Windows Engineer

Our agency is seeking an experienced Senior Windows Engineer with a strong background in SQL Server migrations to join our client’s dynamic IT team. This role involves managing complex Windows environments and leading the migration of SQL Server databases to newer platforms or cloud-based solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strategic problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset to drive successful outcomes for critical projects.
Key Responsibilities:

Windows Environment Management:
- Administer and maintain Windows Server environments, including setup, configuration, and optimization.
- Implement system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure a secure and high-performing infrastructure.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related services to support enterprise operations.

SQL Server Migration:
- Plan and execute migrations of SQL Server databases across on-premises, hybrid, or cloud environments (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
- Analyze existing database architectures and recommend modernization or consolidation strategies.
- Ensure data integrity, minimal downtime, and optimized performance during and after migrations.

Performance Tuning and Optimization:
- Monitor database and server performance, implementing improvements to enhance stability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to database connectivity, security, and system integrations.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Create detailed documentation for migration plans, processes, and post-migration configurations.
- Provide regular progress updates to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment on project goals.

Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including application developers, DBAs, and network engineers, to support migration efforts.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance on best practices for Windows and SQL Server environments.
Requirements:

Technical Expertise:
- Strong proficiency in Windows Server (2016, 2019, and 2022).
- Extensive experience with SQL Server versions 2012–2019, including installation, configuration, and migration.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) and hybrid migration scenarios.
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation tools for system administration and database tasks.
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.

Professional Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in Windows system administration and engineering roles.
- Proven track record of leading successful SQL Server migration projects in enterprise environments.

Certifications:
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, Azure Solutions Architect) are strongly preferred.
- Additional certifications in database technologies or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a bonus.

Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with other database platforms (Oracle, MySQL) and their migration to SQL Server.
- Hands-on experience with Azure migration tools like Azure Migrate and Data Migration Assistant (DMA).
- Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
