VoIP Engineer // Heavy Travel

An IT consulting company is seeking a VoIP Engineer to join their team. In this client-facing role, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining Voice over IP (VoIP) and unified communications solutions for a diverse client base across multiple industries. You will work closely with clients to assess their communication needs and implement scalable, reliable voice infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with their existing IT environments.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a customer-focused environment and enjoys solving complex voice and networking challenges while delivering exceptional service. You will collaborate with internal technical teams to ensure clients’ communication systems are secure, highly available, and optimized for performance.

This role will be remote with occasional travel. 

Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in VoIP engineering, telecommunications, or unified communications

  • Experience in client-facing roles with the ability to clearly communicate technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong experience with VoIP platforms such as Cisco Call Manager, Avaya, Asterisk, 3CX, or similar systems

  • Knowledge of SIP, RTP, VoIP signaling protocols, and call routing

  • Experience configuring and supporting SIP trunks, PBX systems, and IP phones

  • Solid understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and QoS

  • Experience with VoIP troubleshooting tools (packet capture, call trace, MOS analysis)

  • Familiarity with cloud-based VoIP or UCaaS platforms

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in fast-paced environments

  • Understanding of voice security, encryption, and best practices for secure communications

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting VoIP solutions across multiple client environments

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams Voice, Zoom Phone, or other cloud collaboration platforms

  • Experience with session border controllers (SBCs) and voice gateways

  • Knowledge of call center platforms and contact center technologies

  • Experience with automation or scripting (PowerShell, Python, or APIs) for system management

  • Familiarity with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for voice infrastructure
