A leading enterprise technology organization is currently looking for a Senior Mainframe Quality Engineer to join its core platform engineering team. This role will support the testing and validation of a model-driven development platform used to build and maintain large-scale enterprise applications across mainframe and distributed environments.
In this role, you’ll work closely with developers, platform engineers, and stakeholders to ensure the quality and reliability of applications running in a mainframe (z/OS) environment. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in end-to-end testing, including system, integration, and acceptance testing, along with hands-on experience validating both legacy and modernized application workflows. This individual will play a key role in ensuring platform stability, supporting internal users, and improving overall testing practices across the environment.
It is a fully onsite position based in Plano, Texas.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience working in software quality assurance roles
- Hands-on experience testing mainframe-based applications (z/OS environment)
- Experience working with technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, or CICS
- Strong understanding of end-to-end testing methodologies (system, integration, UAT)
- Experience creating, executing, and maintaining detailed test cases and test plans
- Experience identifying, documenting, and tracking defects using tools such as Jira
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of testing efforts
- Experience with test automation (Python preferred, but not required)
- Exposure to mainframe tools such as TSO/ISPF or similar environments
- Experience working with messaging or middleware technologies (IBM MQ, etc.)
- Familiarity with modern development tools such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, or similar
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise or platform-based applications
- Ability to learn and adapt to new tools and frameworks quickly
